Excellent post! The avoidance of pain and antalgic posture are two very important issues indeed. The relationship of pain avoidance and dysfunction are clear. I am grateful for your understanding and the time you took to write this.

I just found this site this morning, I have searched many sites for info on herniation of disks, sciatica.....and really appreciated reading your site, dealing myself with chronic pain/CRPS and helping people dealing with workers comp issues here in BC that are suffering chronic pain, the video on chronic pain was exceptional and will have my buddies that are new to CP watch it as it explains it so very well.
Thank You I will keep coming back.

It's refreshing to read some accurate information, it's so rare on this topic. The Australian program horribly over-screens which means we have very high over-treatment rates - and some women are left with problems - cervical damage that can mean infertility, high risk pregnancies, the need for c-sections, cervical stenosis, endometriosis etc
Our lifetime referral rate is 77% for a cancer with a 0.65% lifetime risk. Of course, this generates vast profits for doctors, pathologists etc
So Aussie women are pressured to have 26 or more pap tests, excessive and harmful and more than a decade behind the evidence. The Dutch have put women first, there is no need to harm and worry so many to help so few...the more than 99% who can never benefit from pap testing deserve some consideration and have a legal right to make an informed decision about testing, yet try declining a pap test!
American women are routinely coerced into testing in exchange for the Pill - highly unethical and no doubt results in unplanned pregnancies and abortions.
The Dutch offer 7 pap tests, 5 yearly from 30 to 60 and will shortly move to 5 hrHPV primary triage tests offered at ages 30, 35, 40, 50 and 60 and only those positive will be offered a 5 yearly pap test (presumably until they clear the virus) - only 5% of women are HPV positive by age 40. Those negative and NOT monogamous will be offered the HPV program and Dutch women are already using the self-sample HPV device, the Delphi Screener. Negative, monogamous or no longer sexually active and you can forget testing and revisit the subject if your risk profile changes. This program will further reduce testing and over-treatment and is more likely to catch these rare cancers. The pap test misses at least 50% of adenocarcinoma and 25% of squamous cell carcinoma. The Finns also have a 7 pap test program, 5 yearly from 30 to 60 and have the lowest rates of cc in the world and refer the fewest women. In my opinion, countries that over-screen are controlled by and for the benefit of vested and political interests, not women. Our Govt tells women there is no point doing HPV testing as there is no cure and it usually disappears on it's own - true, but misleading - HPV negative women don't need pap tests or biopsies/over-treatment. We only offer HPV testing after treatment, when HPV negative women don't need treatment. Is this strategy to preserve the huge profits generated by over-treating women?
The Americans use both tests and that just confuses the issue resulting in more testing and over-treatment.
You're quite right about women in lifetime mutually monogamous women, but they're pap tested anyway - this information is rarely released to women. In fact information is so poor it's impossible to assess your level of risk and make an informed decision. Of course, doctors will say many men are unfaithful...surely that's a question for women to consider, not doctors. As a low risk woman I have always declined pap tests, an informed decision. It has been hard watching women being misled by their trusted doctors and being harmed by this program. The saddest thing is that most of this damage is/was avoidable - you don't test women under 30 (not one country in the world has shown a benefit, but all have evidence of harm) you offer hrHPV primary triage testing and the Delphi Screener - and informed consent must be respected for women, it's our legal right. Women need to lobby for access to this testing and in the meanwhile, if they want to test, consider the 7 pap test program, 5 yearly from 30 to 60. Testing while pregnant or up to a year after birth is unwise - you're more likely to get a false positive due to hormonal changes or trauma to the cervix. I'd urge all women to do their own research and protect your healthy body from harm.
